Heaven is a gift from God. You can’t earn it. Some people try to earn their way to Heaven by praying more, trying to follow all the rules in the Bible, and by tithing more than others. While these are all great things, they won’t get you through the pearly gates. In Ephesians 2:8-10 it says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. So, we can’t earn it by our good behavior or works(volunteering, tithing, praying), or we would boast and think we earned it and pat ourselves on the back. We think by following all the rules we will become Holy and righteous and that might get us into Heaven. However, the Bible says that our righteousness is like a filthy rag(Isaiah 64:6). There are 618 laws we must keep! In James 2:10 it says, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. That means if you follow all the rules but break just one, you are guilty of breaking them all! Have you every tried to keep just the 10 commandments? I have and its exhausting!! I prefer God’s way. Matthew 11:29-30 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. God knew we couldn’t keep them all so He sent us a savior. The laws were given so we would know we needed a savior. So, what gets us into Heaven? It is our faith! By grace we are saved by our faith in Christ Jesus(Ephesians 2:8). In John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.” In John 3:16-17 it states, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. Once we believe in Jesus we are sanctified(made Holy and righteous) through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.(Hebrews 10:10) God is a spirit, so he looks at our spirit and He sees Jesus and is pleased with us. This is why we can come boldly to the throne when talking to God. He will always look at our Spirit and if we have accepted Christ our Spirit is Holy and Righteous. Praise God!
